1. The Ottawa International Animation Festival (OIAF) is pleased to
announce the films that have been invited to compete in this year's
event. Out of 1883 entries the Festival received from 64 countries,
only 109 were chosen for Official Competition. An additional 46 films
will be shown in out-of-competition Showcase screenings. The 16th
edition of the now-annual OIAF runs from September 21-25 in Ottawa,
Ontario.
This year's short film competition features some powerful new films
including:
Henry Selick's (Nightmare Before Christmas) latest, MoonGirl (making
its world premiere in Ottawa);
John Canemaker's powerful and moving ode to his father, The Moon and
The Son;
two-time OIAF Grand Prize winner (Bird in The Window), Igor Kovalyov is
back with Milch;
The Mysterious Geographic Explorations of Jasper Morello, is an
ambitious silhouette-inspired adventure film by Australian Anthony
Lucas;
Fallen Art and Ichthys, two astonishing new works from Poland;
Jona/Tomberry, a sizzling graphic novel adaptation by Rosto of the
Netherlands.
Prizes will be awarded to category winners (see below) and a Grand
Prize will be awarded the winner of each competition (Short Film,
Feature Film, Student, and Commissioned). The Festival will have two
international juries; Jerry Beck (USA), Gail Noonan (Canada) and Michal
Struss (Slovakia) will oversee the Feature Animation, New Media and
School Competitions. Paul Bush (UK), Michèle Cournoyer) Canada) and
Prudence Fenton (USA) will judge the Independent, Commissioned and
Student Competitions.

BEST SCHOOL SHOWREEL
An international jury will screen four schools' works at the Animation
Resource Centre at 2 Daly Avenue, Suite 120. Each school will present a
40-minute compilation of their best new student work from the past two
years. The general public can view these works separately at the
Animation Resource Centre throughout the Festival and the winner will
be announced at the Closing Ceremonies on September 25th.

The Technology Forum is a new event taking place on Saturday, September
24th at the National Arts Centre Fourth Stage. The day leads off with a
special workshop about setting up a pipeline for your studio. Plus

Boom Technologies will be showcasing what's on the cutting edge of
animation software.
