The Ottawa International Animation Festival and TELETOON offer workshop

The Ottawa International Animation Festival and TELETOON are presenting a special intensive writing workshop this year called Scriptwriting for Animation Series with Gemini award-winning writer Ian James Corlett (Being Ian, Yvon of the Yukon).

This workshop is the first instalment of TELETOON’S Masters Program, designed to give professionals an opportunity to share knowledge and information about the animation industry. As part of this Masters Program, leaders in animation writing, directing, storyboarding, designing and animating will be called upon to impart their experience and knowledge with other members of the creative community.

Scriptwriting for Animation Series will give a first rate group of writers the opportunity to work hands-on with Corlett for a full-day workshop on Saturday, September 24, 9:00 am - 4:00 pm, during Ottawa05.

The workshop is available to writers with a minimum of 3 years industry experience. It is free for TAC and OIAF passholders and $75 CDN for non-passholders. For details about how to apply, please visit

The application deadline has been extended to 5pm on Monday, August 29.

Ian James Corlett
For over two decades Ian has been serving up unique voice characterizations for animation projects of every genre. His beginnings were voicing radio and TV commercials and soon found himself cast in cartoon features and series such as the Emmy-nominated craziness of “The Wacky World of Tex Avery," “What's With Andy?” and “Dragon Tales,” to the critically acclaimed CGI series, “Beastwars." Ian's keen sense of comedy as well as his strong feel for character and story structure have combined to make him one of the busiest animation-specific writers in Canada. His work can be seen in such diverse series as “The Adventures of Paddington Bear," “Rescue Heroes," and the Emmy-nominated “Rolie Polie Olie." Ian was the recipient of the 1999 GEMINI award for “best writing in a children's series” for his work on “Rolie Polie Olie.” Ian has worked as a series/staff writer for clients like The Walt Disney Co., Nelvana, and FOX Kids. His original and absurd animated series “Yvon of the Yukon," which he co-created, hit the airwaves in fall of 2000 on Canada's YTV network and immediately became the network's #1 Canadian animated show. Ian has three original animated projects and one teen live-action project in development with U.S. and Canadian producers. Currently he is producing and story-editing Being Ian, an animated comedy for YTV which began airing in January 2005. In short order, Being Ian also became YTV's #1 rated Canadian program. Based in Vancouver, BC, Ian spends his non-writing time playing hockey (he is Canadian), following professional motorsports, and racing his own car. The vast majority of his time and focus, though, is spent pursuing family activities with his wife, seven year old son, and his five year old daughter.
