BarCampSaskatoon set for Saturday October 28, 2006

BarCamp is a worldwide technological exchange phenomenon. BarCampSaskatoon is a free conference born from the desire for people to share and learn in an open environment. It is an intense event with discussions, demos and interaction from attendees. It is an informal gathering of people from technical and business backgrounds, where information and experiences are exchanged. It is an event to develop community among digital thinkers.
The first BarCampSaskatoon will be held at The Cellar in the basement of the Senator Hotel (243 21st Street East) from noon until 5:00 on October 28.
The idea of BarCamp came from FooCamp where some of the best techie minds in the world got together to talk about new technologies, and to create opportunities for cross-fertilization between people and technologies. Since only the top minds from O’Reilly, Google, Yahoo, Intel, Apple, etc. were invited to attend, two people in San Jose decided to make a camp for the rest of us. Now, there is a BarCamp somewhere in the world almost every day.
The goal of BarCampSaskatoon, is to bring together, for an afternoon, people who love technology to meet, talk and to learn. Each person who attends has to be willing to talk about something or volunteer (registration, set-up, teardown, etc.).
There will be a number of sessions which will be picked by the attendees at the start of the day. For example, if lots of people want to hear about the future of Skype, then that will be on the agenda. If people do not want to hear about the effect of the “blink” tag, it will not be on the agenda.
Space is limited. People are already signing up to present, organize,
sponsor and volunteer. BarCampSaskatoon is free, but campers are asked to make a small donation to offset expenses.
Please spread the word; one of the most important things you can do to make a successful BarCamp is to get your friends and colleagues who are interested in technology to attend and promote the event.
