Game Jam Successes!

January 2026 was an exciting time for Saskatchewan’s game development community, with both Regina and Saskatoon hosting successful game jam events that brought together developers, artists, designers, and storytellers from across the province.

Global Game Jam Regina 2026

Global Game Jam Regina proudly hosted its 11th event this year, welcoming over 30 participants who came together to create 8 original games in just one weekend. These local developers joined a global community of over 500,000 participants worldwide who have taken part in Global Game Jam events over the years.

The 2026 theme, Mask, inspired a wide range of creative interpretations. Participants explored genres including platformers, shooters, puzzles, survival games, and battle-focused experiences. The variety of games showcased the creativity and technical skill of the Regina game development community.

A huge thank you goes out to all participants, volunteers, and sponsors who made the event possible, including Creative Saskatchewan and Innovation Saskatchewan.

Saskatoon Game Jam 2026

The 2026 Saskatoon Game Jam was another standout success. Over the course of the event, 120+ developers collaborated to create an impressive 40+ games, highlighting the strength and passion of Saskatchewan’s game development scene.

In addition to game creation, attendees had the opportunity to learn from industry professionals through insightful talks. Kurtis Wiebe presented on Narrative Is Not Writing, while Erik Johnson shared expertise on 2D Game Art, offering valuable perspectives for developers at all stages of their careers.

This event would not have been possible without the generous support of sponsors SaskInteractive, Creative Saskatchewan, Foolish Mortals, Noodle Cake, RAIS, Dragonfly Game Studio, and Dragon’s Den. Special thanks also go to the University of Saskatchewan for hosting the event in their computer science lab.

The organizers extend heartfelt appreciation to the dedicated volunteers who kept everything running smoothly: Michael Long, Deborah Black, Kurtis Wiebe, Erik Johnson, and Eric Benz.
